A native of North Carolina, Casey Cogburn earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then obtained a Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University where she received a scholarship for academic achievement. While at Cumberland, Casey was an Associate Editor of The Cumberland Law Review.

Casey is a member of both the Alabama and North Carolina State Bar. She clerked for the Honorable Judge Loyd H. Little of the Circuit Court of Madison County, Alabama beginning in 2009. Thereafter, she maintained a thriving law practice in Alabama where she made frequent appearances in court and other proceedings. She decided to return to North Carolina, and beginning in 2016, clerked for the Honorable William L. Osteen, Jr. in the Middle District of North Carolina.
